More Information

Learn more about dental implants

Dental implants serve as long-lasting and secure alternatives to natural teeth, capable of replacing a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth, or even entire sets of teeth. These implants consist of a titanium screw, surgically implanted into the jawbone where the tooth is absent. Functioning as an artificial tooth root, this screw ensures stability for your dental restoration. Typically, a period of healing follows to facilitate the bonding of bone with the biocompatible post.

After this healing phase, our dentist will affix the dental implant restoration, customizing it to seamlessly fit your smile. Depending on your specific dental requirements and the location of the missing teeth, this restoration may take the form of a dental crown, bridge, or a complete or partial denture. Each restoration is meticulously crafted to ensure both comfort and aesthetic appeal, enhancing both your oral function and appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions from our Dental Implant patients

Why choose dental implants over other tooth replacement options?

  • Dental implants provide a more permanent and natural solution compared to alternatives like dentures or bridges. They offer better stability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.

How do I know if I am a suitable candidate for dental implants?

  • A comprehensive dental examination and imaging are conducted to assess bone density and overall oral health. Generally, good candidates have healthy gums, adequate bone structure, and are in good overall health.

Does the dental implant procedure involve pain?

  • The procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure you are comfortable and pain-free. After the surgery, mild discomfort can be managed with prescribed medications.

How long does the dental implant process take?

  • The timeline varies, but it typically involves multiple stages: evaluation, implant placement, healing period, and attachment of the replacement tooth. On average, the entire process can take a few months.

Are dental implants long-lasting?

  • With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime. Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene, and avoiding habits like smoking contribute to their longevity.

How do I maintain oral hygiene with dental implants?

  • Proper oral hygiene is crucial for implant success. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups are essential. Dr. Lizette Barzaga will provide specific care instructions tailored to your situation.

Can smokers get dental implants?

  • While smoking can increase the risk of complications and hinder the healing process, individuals who smoke can still be eligible for dental implants. However, quitting smoking is highly recommended to enhance the chances of success.
